Lorenzo Boone Recognized Among Point Park University’s 2016 MFA Graduates
At Point Park University’s 2016 Graduate Hooding and Degree Conferral Ceremony, over 200 students were celebrated for earning their master’s degrees, including Lorenzo Boone, a standout graduate of the inaugural M.F.A. in Writing for the Screen and Stage program. Boone’s journey to his degree was deeply rooted in legacy and resilience. In a powerful reflection, he credited his 85-year-old mother as his guiding inspiration, carrying forward the dreams she was never afforded. “We stand on the shoulders of giants,” he said, honoring the intergenerational strength that fueled his pursuit.
Boone also recognized the faculty who nurtured his voice as a playwright—Professors Nelson Chipman and Elise D’Haene—who helped him embrace his distinctive, nontraditional storytelling style. Their mentorship affirmed that his voice mattered, even if it wasn’t mainstream. Boone’s work continues to uplift narratives that are often overlooked, echoing the mission of Gold Pyramid Productions and the impact of *The Awakening*.
The ceremony, held at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Downtown Pittsburgh, featured remarks from university leaders, alumni, and fellow graduates, and served as a celebration of perseverance, personal growth, and the power of education to shape lives.
